Over the years, our end-of-the-year fundraising activities have seen some changes. As the organization, its programming, board membership, and staff are now pretty much evenly divided between South and Central Florida, it has been increasingly difficult to gather all of Florida ILJ’s supporters and donors to gather in one location. Last year, we attempted to hold in-person events in Central and South Florida, but we ended up canceling both events as we did not get the required RSVPs to allow them to be a sustainable fundraising event. This year, rather than planning and canceling events, we intend to only engage in one fundraising event – Give Miami Day.
Give Miami Day, a day of giving hosted by the Miami Foundation, allows for nonprofit organizations providing services in the Miami-Dade region to participate in a local day of philanthropic giving. Through the Miami Foundation, organizations such as ours, are given tools, training, and a platform to promote and collect donations seamlessly. Early giving begins on November 17th and Give Miami Day is officially on November 21, 2024.
“With so much time and energy spent on starting and staffing a new program aimed at helping the most vulnerable of our immigrant community, we just have not had the time to engage in and participate in meaningful outreach efforts the way we hoped to, so we are hoping that all our supporters will rally and come out in our support for this one and only fundraiser this year!” – Nicole Leon, Executive Director.
You do not need to be located in Miami to support this cause and we hope that the name of this event does not throw off some of our donors and supporters from other parts of Florida. This fundraiser allows us raise unrestricted funds to help out with our general operating costs which are not supported by our grant and program funding.

In June of this year, the Department of Homeland Security announced a new program, aptly titled “Keeping Families Together.” It announced a new process by which spouses and stepchildren of US Citizens could request parole-in-place, an existing process already available to family members of military members. The program and this new process would allow spouses […]
Late last year, Florida Immigration Law and Justice Center started the process of becoming a subcontractor for ACACIA Center for Justice’s Unaccompanied Children Program. And in late November 2024, started the process of finalizing all the contracts and learning all about the program and what it entailed. Florida ILJ formally became a Legal Service Provider […]
